Why do people hate whimsy?
Welcome to Haute take mondays <3 let's discuss today's topic: why are people so hateful towards others who are themselves?
I don’t think this should be a hot take at all, because it really just comes down to people not bullying each other for expressing themselves in whatever way they see fit (a foreign concept to some). This question was brought to me from a comment on my tik tok where I discuss the woman who quite literally made a tik tok dissing on a teenager working in retail wearing a star face pimple patch.
Now, I am all for teenagers etc. being put in their place when they are doing something wrong, and should be held accountable and not rely on the “minor card” which is what many of them do on tik tok to excuse their bullying, however this teenager who the woman in the video says, “is a couple years under 18 and barely working age”, and goes on a whole rant on how people shouldn’t wear pimple patches in public because it is “unprofessional”.
Mind you this person is saying this with a slick back bun (she is white) and a oversized boxy brown faux leather jacket with what I guess you would call “clean girl makeup”. Now that’s not my cup of tea when it comes to style, but I don’t think an adult woman should be so bothered and concerned about what anyone, any age is wearing on their face.
It came off really mean-girl like she enjoyed feeling “better than” a teenager. This woman thought let me make this tik tok picking on a teenager working a retail job for just being a teenager? For using a product that is marketed towards teenagers and young adults? The use of pimple patches and starface adds whimsy to something that is a rather hard thing for teenagers to deal with. The horomones, body changes, periods, sexuality etc, star face brought something cute and fun to a time that isn’t exactly all that cute and fun.
I am 26 and I still wear star face patches out.My husband is 36 and he happily lets me put my miffy pimple patches on him whenever I see a pimple coming on. All of it is just really weird in my opinion to be so upset over. I don’t think that people should be bullied at all for any reason, especially for things that are quite literally NORMAL.
I think the rise of conservatism in media has definetly made people more comfortable bullying people who don’t follow the grain. This girl didn’t even do anything that crazy! I think this is very telling about how people are so miserable and mad at themselves for something they are lacking.
